Introducing the DirtBox, a distortion effect box for microphone level signals! By putting the DirtMic circuit into its own enclosure you can get analog distortion tones from any mic.
The DirtBox runs off 48v phantom power so no batteries or power supplies are needed. Simply plug the mic into the DirtBox, then plug the output into any mic preamp and turn the phantom power on. The levels are all perfectly matched by two internal transformers and the amount of distortion is controlled by the ‘pre-gain’ volume po. Turn the gain up to 10 to capture big, dirty flavors from any source or try lower gain for more subtle tones.
The DirtBox has been designed for the recording studio but there is potential to use it for live performance. Use a Cardioid or Hyper microphone and keep the gain levels low for the best results. Due to the nature of live distortion and feedback, you'll have a better chance of success if you have a smart sound person and you keep the stage volume low.
Using a balanced Y cable you can get separate clean and distorted splits which are in phase and can be mixed together to your taste. The Y cable also allows condensor mics to be used with the DirtBox. By turning on phantom power for both the clean and distorted preamp inputs, the DirtBox and the condenser mic will both be powered.
The DirtBox comes with a manual and is covered by a 2 year repair or replace guarantee.
